metro Longueuil

August 10, 2010 / 9km23C / sunny / light wind SW

I took the Metro from my Marie-Anne street home to south shore Longueuil, climbed the stairs and walked across the Jacques-Cartier bridge.

Major sensations: the rumble, hum and swish of constant traffic, the swaying of the bridge, and the rattle of the arching suicide-prevention fences.

Lots of action: The St. Lawrence seaway, the bicycle path, Route 132 South

and Buckminster Fuller’s Geodesic Dome (the US pavilion during Expo 67).

A pleasant surprise

I no longer had the bridge to myself, there was a guy way behind me, so I didn’t dawdle as much because I didn’t want him to catch up with me.

The change in soundscape when I got off the bridge was immediate. It was so quiet compared to the sound of the traffic.
I could hear the birds all the way home.
